Personal Experience
I was inspired to publish A Time for Fairies because of the wonderful experience I had with my daughter when she was growing up, and the "fairies" visited our fairy garden. They came because my daughters 'real' Godmother showed us how to make a fairy garden, just as she had been shown when she was a little girl. The Godmother is actually a wonderful artist and the magic came in the form of tiny fairy letters that she created then, and is creating for you now. I ordered these magical letters and had them posted to me in much the same way as you can order them today. The fact that these letters are so small and the writing so minute makes them absolutely unique and believable. The ink is also water resistant so it will not spoil in early morning dewy conditions.
My daughter and I then made a fairy garden, much like the one described in the book. We also used leaves, petals and berries found in the garden. Then it was my task to put one of the tiny "fairy" letters in the garden after she was asleep and create some small disturbance around the fairy garden. The next morning she discovered the letter, and I cannot adequately explain the excitement and joy she got from finding a letter from the fairies with her name on it!
Although she was only 4 years old she learnt to anticipate full moon and would potter around outside making a fresh fairy garden out of bits and pieces of special things she could find. It was a wonderfully creative experience and something I could share with her in her world. She would sometimes spend quite some time on her own creating a new fairy garden and on one occasion had me searching the garden in moonlight and torch light trying to find the whereabouts of the mystery location!
We enjoyed the "fairies" visiting our garden for over 4 years and now as she grows older she is sharing the wonder with her young cousin and showing her how to care for the fairies. I must admit, however, that the true inspiration came from her Godmother who tells us that when she was a little girl, her much older sister taught her how to care for the "fairies" and she received little letters from them too!
If you have any experiences you would like to share, we would love to hear from you!
